1. What should I expect after scheduling my first appointment?
Once we have chatted on the phone, if you have decided to schedule an intake session I will send off consent forms that need to be signed prior to the intake session. The intake session is pretty much a "getting to know you" session, where I will ask questions to further explore what brought you to therapy, as well as to go over your history. All sessions after the intake will begin to address the goals and priorities that brought you to therapy.
2. Will you be diagnosing me?
In order to bill with insurance, it is required that I provide a diagnosis to the insurance company. This diagnosis is based on the information I gather during the intake session, but is reassessed throughout treatment. I view a diagnosis as one way to better understand what is happening within a person's mental health; it is not what makes a person or a label for a person. I am upfront about the diagnosis I have determined and will provide as much information on it as my client wants.
